The story, which portrayed a slow-burning emotional connection forged during a joint mission in Blüdhaven, has been downloaded over 4 million times.
Art soon followed. Illustrators began posting moody digital paintings of the pair standing back-to-back in a rain-soaked alley or patching each other up post-battle. TikTok equivalents on MetaPulse feature montage edits set to tragic indie ballads.
